APPSC Group – I Services Examination
The Andhra Pradesh State Public Service Commission (APPSC) has issued a notification on 31st of December 2018 for online applications for various posts falling under Group I Services.
Some important points pertaining to this notification
The eligible candidates can apply from – 07th January 2019
The last date to apply – 28th January 2019
(Note - 27th January 2019 is the last date for payment of fee up to 11:59 mid night)
Preliminary Examination – 10th March 2019 (Offline Mode)
Main Examination – 10th June to 22nd June 2019 (Conventional Mode)
For all the specified posts, it is mandatory for the applicant to hold a Bachelor’s Degree of any University in India established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, Provincial Act or a State Act or the Institutions recognized by the University Grants Commission or an equivalent qualification.
The qualification required varies from post to post and for some posts such as Asst. Treasury Officer/Asst. Accounts Officer in A.P./Treasury & Accounts Service, the candidate must possess a degree in Commerce or Economics or Mathematics of a University Recognized by the UGC with at least a 2nd class in the subject, or A Chartered Accountants of the United Kingdom or India or an incorporated Accountant (London).
For the post of District Fire Officers in A.P. Fire Service, a candidate needs to possess Degree of Engineering (Fire) of any University recognized by the University Grants Commission or any other equivalent qualifications.
Eligibility on the basis of Age
Any candidate less than 18 years old is not eligible to apply and the maximum age for applying for various posts is 42 (as on 01st of July 2018). The following condition applies for certain posts like:
For Deputy Supdt. of Police (Civil) Cat-2 in A.P. Police Service – Applicants age must be between 21 and 28 years (as on 01st of July 2018).
For Deputy Supdt. of Jails (MEN) in A.P. Jail Service - Applicants age must be between 18 and 28 years (as on 01st of July 2018).
For District Fire Officers in A.P. Fire Service - Applicants age must be between 21 and 26 years (as on 01st of July 2018).
For Assistant Prohibition & Excise Superintendent in A.P. Excise Service - Applicants age must be between 18 and 26 years (as on 01st of July 2018).
Age relaxation of 5 years is given to the candidates belonging to SC/ST and BCs
Age relaxation of 10 years is given to the candidates belonging to Physically Handicapped category.
For Ex-servicemen and NCC candidates, it is 3 years and
For AP State Govt. Employees, the age of relaxation will not exceed 5 years.
For Retrenched temporary employees in the State Census Department with a minimum service of 6 months, the period of relaxation is 3 years.
As per the notification, candidate for direct recruitment to any post shall be regarded as a local candidate in relation to a local area.
For cases where minimum educational qualification is prescribed:
(i) If he has studied in an educational institution or educational institutions in such local area for a period of not less than four consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he appeared or, as the case may be, first appeared for the relevant qualifying examination or
(ii) where during the whole or any part of the four consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he appeared or as the case may be, first appeared for the relevant qualifying examination he has not studied in any educational institution, if he has resided in that local area for a period of not less than four years immediately preceding the date of commencement of the qualifying examination in which he appeared or as the case may be, first appeared.
If minimum educational qualification is not prescribed:
(i) If he has resided in that local area for a period of not less than four years immediately preceding the date on which the post is notified for recruitment.
Mode of Application
The candidates who are applying for the first time has to fill One Time Profile Registration (OTPR).
The candidate has to login using the OTPR login and password set by the candidate.
The candidate must then click on the payment link against the Notification Number that he wants to apply.
After entering the requisite details, a reference ID is generated. After this, various payment options are shown.
Fee and Mode of Payment
The fee is Rs. 250/- towards application processing fee and Rs. 120/- towards examination fee.
SC, ST, BC, PH & Ex-Service Men candidates are exempted from payment of examination fee Rs. 120/.
The mode of payment is online and can be paid using Net Banking/ Credit Card / Debit Card.

For the candidates who clear both Preliminary and Mains Examinations, an interview of 75 marks would be conducted. The minimum qualifying marks for consideration of a candidate to the selection process are 40% for OCs, 35% for BCs, and 30% for SCs, STs and PHs or as per rules. Mere securing of minimum qualifying marks does not confer any right to the candidate for being considered to the selection. Where the candidates get equal number of marks in the Mains Examination if two or more candidates get equal total number of marks, those candidates shall be bracketed. Candidates within the same bracket shall then be ranked 1, 2, 3 etc., according to age i.e., oldest being considered for admission. The appointment of selected candidates will be subject to their being found medically fit in the appropriate medical classification.
